Florence
Cooking Class in a Tuscan Farmhouse
Pick your ingredients from the garden, make gelato, then choose pizza or pasta
Food & Wine
Why We Love it
The gelato is the part nobody expects — you mix your own at the start, leave it to chill through the class, and come back to it at the end for a demonstration with liquid nitrogen.

The Experience
Six hours out of Florence at a private estate, with transport from the city included. You meet the chefs, walk the estate garden, and pick the seasonal ingredients you'll be cooking with. There's an appetizer and a glass of wine waiting when you arrive.
Gelato comes first — choose your flavors, mix your own, set it aside to chill. Then it's pizza or pasta. Pizza means learning the dough and topping it with vegetables you picked yourself, baked in a wood-fired oven. Pasta means three shapes made from scratch, with sauces including pesto and cacio e pepe.
You finish where you started, back at the gelato for the liquid nitrogen demonstration. Then everyone sits down to eat what they made, drinks included.
My pick for travelers who would rather make a meal than stand in line for one, and for groups and families who want a few hours outside the city with something to show for it.
