Paris

Original Marais Food Tour

Eight to ten stops from Beaubourg to Bastille, through the oldest covered market in Paris

Food & Wine, Local Culture

Why We Love it

Cheeses from every region of France, oysters, and a wine merchant who will tell you what to drink with each — inside a market trading since 1605.

Spellbound Images & Cut Outs - 36 copy.

The Experience

Beaubourg to Bastille in three and a half hours, on foot with a local guide and a group capped at twelve, stopping eight to ten times to eat.

The route takes in the Marché des Enfants Rouges, the oldest indoor market in Paris, founded in 1605 and a short walk from the Picasso Museum. Its alleys hold fresh fish and oysters, cheeses from every region of France, cured meats, seasonal fruit and vegetables, organic growers, and a wine merchant who will talk you through what to drink with what. Produce comes in from Aveyron, the Vendée, the Pays Basque. Around the market: old mansions, art galleries, fashion shops.

You taste cheese, wine, pastries and French specialties across the stops, sweet and savory both, with a few your guide does not announce in advance.

My pick for repeat visitors who have done the monuments and want a neighborhood instead, and for anyone who takes their cheese seriously.
