Naples

Pompeii, Positano & Amalfi

Pompeii in the morning, then Positano and Amalfi — the ruins and the coast in one private day

Sightseeing

Why We Love it

Morning in the amphitheatre where the gladiators fought, afternoon on the steps of Amalfi's Duomo — nothing else near Naples covers that much ground in a day.

Spellbound Images & Cut Outs - 36 copy.

The Experience

Nine hours from Naples pairing the archaeology with the coastline. Pompeii first — the Forum, the amphitheatre where the gladiatorial contests were held, the frescoed villas and the House of the Vettii — then down to Positano for the boutiques and the Church of Santa Maria Assunta, and on to Amalfi for the Duomo and the paper museum.

A two-hour guided tour of Pompeii is worth adding. Without one the site is largely unlabelled and you are looking at very old walls.

My pick for travelers with one day near Naples who refuse to choose between the ruins and the coast.
