Sorrento in place of Amalfi takes the long stretch of coast road out of the day, so the time goes into Positano's streets instead of the car.

Nine hours from Naples, starting at Pompeii — the Forum, the amphitheatre, the villas with their frescoes and mosaics, the House of the Vettii — then west to Sorrento for Piazza Tasso and the Basilica di Sant'Antonino, and finally Positano and its colourful cliffside houses, boutiques and the Church of Santa Maria Assunta.
Swapping Amalfi for Sorrento cuts a good deal of driving out of the day, which leaves more of it for walking around. A two-hour guided tour of Pompeii is strongly worth adding.
