Venice

Private Grand Canal and Unknown Venice Boat Tour

Your own motor launch down the Grand Canal, then into the back canals

On The Water, Sightseeing

Why We Love it

The Grand Canal is only the first half — after that it's in through the Arsenal's Water Gate, the Jewish Ghetto, and a workshop where gondolas are still built by craftsmen.

Spellbound Images & Cut Outs - 36 copy.

The Experience

Three hours on a private reserved motor launch from the St. Mark's waterfront, with an English-speaking escort and nobody else on board.

The first stretch is the Grand Canal at a slow pace, past the palaces, churches and bridges that line it. Then off the main waterway into the minor canals, and in through the Water Gate to the Arsenal — the shipyard from the days when Venice was a commercial power. Out into the open lagoon after that, past Murano and San Michele, the cemetery island. On a clear day you can see the Dolomites from there.

Back in through Cannaregio and its back canals, with a stop at the Jewish Ghetto, then Santa Croce and Dorsoduro and the gondola workshop where the boats are still built by craftsmen. You finish where you started, at St. Mark's.

My pick for anyone who would rather see Venice from the water than from a bridge, and for parties of six or more, where the per-person price drops sharply.
