Florence

Private Half Day Walking Tour of Florence

Three hours across Florence on foot, from the Medici's San Marco to the old Roman forum

Sightseeing, Local Culture

Why We Love it

Add the Accademia and you walk the hallway of unfinished Prisoners before you reach David — the half of that gallery most people rush past.

Spellbound Images & Cut Outs - 36 copy.

The Experience

Three hours on foot with a private English-speaking guide, beginning in Piazza San Marco at the church and convent rebuilt by Cosimo il Vecchio, who founded the Medici. The garden where Michelangelo did his early studies is close by.

Add the Accademia and it comes next: David, and the unfinished Prisoners along the hallway that leads up to him. Then Piazza del Duomo, three buildings standing together — the baptistery of San Giovanni, the city's patron saint; Giotto's bell tower; and Santa Maria del Fiore under its brick dome.

From there the walk runs through stone-paved streets to Piazza della Signoria, then over Ponte Vecchio, the oldest bridge in the city. It ends in Piazza della Repubblica, where the Roman forum used to be.

My pick for a first visit to Florence, when you want the geography to make sense before you strike out on your own, and for anyone who would rather ask questions than read plaques.
