You start in St Mark's Square, between the two columns on the waterfront, and go straight into the Basilica — skip the line, then up to the upper terrace for the view back across the square. Indoors there are models of the church showing how it was built and how the mosaics were framed, which is a good deal easier to follow than a ceiling. Your guide explains the bronze horses brought from Constantinople, the greatest casts of antiquity. Then the Belltower, for the view over the city.
After that, a private motorboat out along part of the Grand Canal. Past the palazzos, and into why Venice still moves everything by water — shopping, deliveries, all of it — back to when there were fewer bridges and no other way to do it. A gelato stop is never far off. Parental approval required.

Three hours. Four departures daily: 9:00 am, 11:10 am, 1:10 pm and 3:10 pm.
Private tour — the guide is yours, priced per person by party size for up to eight people.
Meet your guide in St Mark's Square, between the two columns overlooking the water. They'll be holding a sign with your name.
Getting to the meeting point isn't included. Cruise passengers take the ship's water shuttle or a private water taxi to St Mark's Square; hotel guests walk or take a water taxi, depending on where they're staying. Exact instructions are on your voucher, and we can price private transport for you in advance.
Allow plenty of time to reach the meeting point.
St Mark's Basilica has a strict dress code: no shorts, no sleeveless tops, no skirts above the knee. Backpacks, large purses and bags are not permitted.
Skip-the-line entry to the Basilica is not available from 1 November to 31 March.
Food and drinks, gelato included, are paid on the day.
