A bodega first, out among the vines — how the wine is made, then a tasting of regional wines with local food to match. Into the historic centre after that for three to five more at the Wine Club. Lunch is three courses of your choosing in a 300-year-old medieval house, then the climb to the castle, a walk through the old town, and down into the Moorish caves beneath the main plaza, cut for wine storage in medieval times. If there is time, the Siete Aguas spring on the way back — bring an empty bottle.

Cruise passengers are met at the Trasmed Passenger Terminal, the only point in the Valencia port where private tours may collect and drop off
Smaller ships dock at the terminal. From the larger piers, take the port shuttle — about seven minutes — and check as you board that it goes to the terminal and not into the city centre
