Versailles Half-Day Tour

Versailles in half a day, with the ticket and the line already handled

Sightseeing, Local Culture

Why We Love it

The guided part is the rooms that matter — the State Apartments and the Hall of Mirrors, 357 of them — and Le Nôtre's two thousand acres after.

Spellbound Images & Cut Outs - 36 copy.

The Experience

Four hours at Versailles with a guide and a group capped at sixteen, headsets included so you can hear, and admission and skip-the-line access already in the price. There's no hotel pick-up — you make your own way to the meeting point on Avenue de la Bourdonnais, and the air-conditioned transport goes from there.

The guided part covers the State Apartments of the King and Queen, the Royal Chapel, and the Hall of Mirrors — 357 mirrors, French bay windows and crystal chandeliers. This was the Sun King's residence, then home to three French kings across more than a hundred years.

Then free time in the gardens à la française: two thousand acres laid out by André le Nôtre, with groves, statues and fountains. In summer the Musical Gardens run, and the Musical Fountains show on Saturdays and Sundays — garden access is included then at no extra charge.

My pick for anyone who wants Versailles done properly in half a day rather than a whole one, and for travelers who don't mind a small shared group if it means walking past the ticket line.
