Grand Hotel Parker's is the first luxury hotel in Naples, with 67 rooms and suites set in the elegant Chiaia district and views across the Bay of Naples to Vesuvius and Capri. The building is filled with period features and antiques kept through a full restoration. Its name comes from George Parker Bidder III, the English marine biologist who saved the former Hotel Tramontano Beau Rivage from financial ruin at the end of the 19th century, after which it became a retreat for British literary and cultural society. It was restored again after the Second World War by Francesco Paolo Avallone.
WHY WE LOVE IT:
Sixty-seven rooms of proper Neapolitan grandeur in Chiaia — the quiet, literary end of Naples where the poets and painters have been holed up since the 1700s. The bay, Vesuvius and Capri line up from the terrace. It has been rescued twice: first by an English marine biologist who spent so much time at the Villa Comunale's zoological station that he bought the hotel rather than watch it close, then by a patron of the arts after the war, who restored it with the original detail intact. Old-world in the way that actually means something.
